Animal Legend
How the Hippo Got Fat
Long ago hippo’s were skinny, there was a hippo living in a river with his family. There was six hippo’s living with him and they were all skinny.
But at the river there was no food. The hippo’s were starving. They had to do something!
The eldest hippo got tired of being hungry, so he went out hunting for food. For days his family waited he didn't return home. Months went by, and finally he returned big and fat. The other hippo’s were angry that he look like that and they said “Why are you so fat?!”
“Never mind. The food I have brought home is over there.” He replied, pointing behind a tree. “There is enough food to last us all for months.”
The other hippos were so excited that they all celebrated, and ate and ate and ate. Soon all of the food was gone and the hippos were so stuffed that they walked slowly back to the river and slept.
That’s how the hippo got to be so fat.
